Realize ® Band Profile
The Realize ® Band is a strong, flexible silicone structure compiled entirely of biocompatible materials.
The device was manufactured by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a division of Johnson & Johnson. U.S. clinical trials for the product started in 2003, with approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) coming in 2007.
Implantation of the Realize ® Band is done through laparoscopic surgery, a procedure that replaced open surgery more than a decade ago. The band comes in a one size fits all and is adjustable, with the first adjustment generally coming four to six weeks after the surgery.
Those who have had the Realize ® Band procedure also report that it decreases the amount of food taken in at one time, yet doesn't hinder the normal absorption of nutrients and vitamins.
The Realize ® Band procedure is a non-invasive surgery since there is no stomach stapling, cutting or intestinal rerouting.
